Like all keen kiteboarders, we've spent a lot of hours playing around in surf and we don't regret any of them! We're stoked to have had the opportunity to experiment with kite-dedicated surf sticks and are getting great feedback.

When we began building surfboards, we approached them differently from other manufacturers who borrowed heavily from windsurf technology. We came up with a completely new method that is based on how we build our successful FLX boards.

Using an epoxy sandwich construction we have developed a board that is lighter and stronger. Construction details are still top secret but the ride is similar to a traditional polyester board, with the additional strength and durability benefits of epoxy construction.

Testimonial: Ian "Tommo" Thomson (ex surfboard shaper)
After breaking numerous urethane hand shaped (standard production ) surfboards while living and surfing in Fiji I was lucky enough to have a very timely meeting with Adrian ,Steve and Aaron from “Underground “.They were producing epoxy styrene Kiteboards that were basically small surfboards (or tow in surf boards .) and were interested in producing conventional riding surfboards .
As a surfboard shaper and manufacturer for 20 odd years I have witnessed alternatives to standard urethane, polyester production .Most of this production had problems with performance and durability and until now has never found its way into mainstream surfing .Standard production boards have remained the most reliable product on the market hence
The production of these Underground boards is extremely advanced, due to a highly developed understanding of the required production techniques , as well as a very sophisticated factory well beyond your average board maker’s set up.
For the last 6 months I have been riding and helping with some input into the design of these boards .The resulting product has been everything we were hoping could be achieved .Basically these boards ride virtually identical to a standard urethane board being of similar weight (generally slightly lighter) but are many times stronger .No compression , no breakage so far .Many heavy Fijian barrels since, have not damaged them they are still like new boards .I have no doubt that I would have broken more standard boards in this time .Many other very competent surfers have ridden my boards and have all been equally impressed with how they ride .There have also been plenty of boards produced for NZ conditions with very favorable feed back from other very competent surfers
There is a huge future in the market place for these boards . As more boards are ridden tested and developed Underground surfboards will become a strong player in the surfboard industry with their leading edge technology and production as they already are in Kiteboard production.
